MEATHODS TO DETERMAIN THE BLOODPRESSURE The blood pressure in the patient's artreal system is represented by the peak systolic &diastolic levels of pressure pulse and is modified by cadiac output, peripheral resistence, distesibility of arteries, amount of blood in the system, and viscosity of blood. Normal blood pressure in the arteries such as the brachial artery, varies between 100 and140 millimeters of meacury mm Hg systolic and between 60 and 90 mm Hg diastolic.Hoew ever ,a wide range also varies with age ,sex and race. For exam[le a pressure reading of100/60 may be normal for oneperson but hypotensive for another. Artrea blood pressure can be measured directly or indirectly. INDIRECT MEATHOD TO DETERMAIN BLOODPRESSURE The most common known meathod is indirect meathod by spigmomanometer and stethoscope.the primary benifits of this meathod are, ADVANTAGES OF INDIRECT MEATHOD
1. Simple for the prctesioner to useand inexpencive.u 2. stecth and spigmo manometer are low cost and within the reach of the patient DRAWBACKS OF INDIRECT MEATHOD 1. It provides limitted data about blood pressure i.e only systolic and diastolic pressure. 2.There may be more chance of practical errors. Osculatory meathod is another meathod to determain blood pressure by indirect meathod. In this meathod ,vibrations from artery under pressure ,called Korotkoff sounds, are usually indicatos. By this meathpd, the bell of a stethoscope is slightly pressed over brachial arterywhile cuff is deflated. And then the B.P is determained by hearing the Korotkuff sounds. DIRECT MEATHOD TO DETEMAIN BLOODPRESSURE In a direct measurement of artreal bloodpressure,a needle or catcher is inserted into the brachial, radialor femolar artery of the patient.A plastic tube filled with heparinised salinesolution connects the cathetor to a pressure sensitive deviceor a strainguage transducer. The mechanical energy that the blood exerts on the transducer's recording membrane is converted into changes in electrical voltage or current.that can be calibrated in mm of Hg.The electrical signal can be transmitted to an electric recorder and an oscilloscope, which contineously records and displays the pressure waves. ADVANTAGES OF DIRECT MEATHOD 1. More accurate than the indirect meathod. 2. It yeilds an electrically intigrated mean pressure. DRAWBACKS OF DIRECT MEATHOD 1. Invasive nature of the tecnique makes it more difficult for the practitioner 2.Less convenent and more traumatic to the patient
